Na verschillende versies verscheen eind 1992 de eerste versie van FileMaker die zowel op Macintosh als Windows zijn werk kon doen, waardoor dezelfde data op beide platformen geraadpleegd kon worden.
Met de introductie van de eerste Macintosh in 1985 werd het programma hernoemd naar FileMaker en voorzien van een form-based gui. Toen werd het ontwikkeld voor het dos-platform onder de naam Nutshell.

If, after adding the FileMaker Server, no username/password prompt appears, a server.pem file needs to be manually added to the FileMaker installation directory. A list of available databases should now appear, and can be opened by the user. If this box doesn't appear, follow the steps in the following section, Adding the server.pem file This password is unique to FileMaker - it does not sync with their Bethel account If the server name was entered correctly, the box to put in the user's username and password should automatically pop up. Make sure Show all available files for this host is selected then Save. Under View, make sure Favorite Hosts is selected. From the File menu, choose Open Remote. The only reason they can do that is because their databases are stored on their Dept Q drive, not our server. 
The only department that used FMP 12 is Study Abroad. You can only connect to our FileMaker Server using FileMaker Pro 11.
